What do you do at night

when the world is paused

and there is no sound?

When the people sleep

and the dreamers weep

and the ones that are lost

are found?

When you are forced

to confront,

the doubt in your mind

in the silence of night

when there is no escaping

those thoughts.

Those that none ever hear

and you never say

during the day

but at night;

there is no escape

from the person you hate,

the world that has left

shambles in wake,

what kind of world

takes and takes?

These thoughts that haunt you

in the night

that come from your head

under the sky

that are determined to scare

and make you cry

that always make you think, why?

How do you hide

from who you are

when no distractions are left?

When the world is far

and the bumps

no longer make you jump

but the sounds in your head do?

We sleep at night

because the familiar fright

of truths come out.

The demons shout

not of your closet

but of your head

the canceling noise

that rackets your bed,

you toss and you turn but you can’t getaway

from the noise that is silent during the day
