Saturday
“Hey,” I said to this woman who leaned on the bar
“Hey,” she said back with a smile, I ordered my drink and appreciated her looks, my friend approached
“Hey,” he said drawing out the word with raised eyebrows, putting his arm on my shoulders
“Hey she said again, my friend and I talked under our breathe briefly to one another, we flirted around with her got a few laughs
“Hey would you be down for a double date, I’d love to know who you’d bring” Erik said offering her his number, she looked between me and him and nodded
“Sure” she took the number “I’ll be in touch” as soon as she walked away we high fives
“Score dude!”
“Ya!” We’d been out all night and this was the first chick we’d managed to pick up, it was getting kind of late so we decided to head home.
I was laying in bed when I felt Erik tapping on me
“Mmm” I moaned rubbing my head
“Dude” he whispered
“What?”
“It’s the girl!”
“What girl?”
“The girl from the bar”
“The girl from the- oh! What does she want?”
“She’s trying to schedule a date!”
“Seriously what time is it”
“Doesn’t matter, what day are you free?” I laid back down sinking into my warm mattress my eyes already starting to get heavy
“I’ve got work from-“ a yawn interrupted “6-9 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and school but nothing other than that”
“Ok cool so Saturday at 6 would work?”
“Sure” I turned over and quickly fell back to sleep under my soft blankets
Sunday
“Mark your calender!” Erik said excitedly, I rubbed my eyes tiredly trying to wipe the sleep from my eyes
“What?” is what I tried to say but it came out as more of a questioning moan
“Remeber from last night?”
“Bro I don’t even remem-remember what happened last night,” I said letting myself fall on the couch face first, I turned my face to the window “It’s too early to be alive” I yelled in my delirious state
“Coffee?” asked my roommate
“Coffee” I screamed and passed out on the couch
I woke up again with a coffee cup on the coffee table and my feet on Erik why he drank coffee and read.
“Mmm” is all I could muster to let him know I was awake
“Mmm to you to” I was to exhausted to reply and just sat up moving my feet off his lap and grabbed my coffee and it was room temperature but I was in no sate of mind to care.
“So, double date?”
“Sure if you want to”
“No, like the one we booked last night, put it in your phone I can’t have you forgetting” I just tossed him my phone so he would stop talking and he probably put in whatever and later I realized he took some pictures of me with the coffee mug in hand, my hair sticking up all over the place, rubbing the sleep out of eyes, which just moved it to my cheek. I cringed and deleted the picture when I saw it.
I was headed off to work that morning, this was and will be the only time I work in the mornings. I said to myself as I got strapped into my outfit. I knew this statement wasn’t true but I said it each morning I got “volen-told” to do someone’s morning shift because they had better things to do. I went up to the counter
“Hi my names Flynn, how may I help you?” I got called on corporate once,
I got yelled at twice, I had to get my manager three times, and I wanted to die infintly amount of times before my shift was over. Like why can’t people just accept when a coupon is expired. Uhg. I just rubbed my face and headed on home.
When I came in there were groceries on the counter but Erik was in the same position except with a laptop on his lap instead of a book. I flopped on the couch landing my head next to Erik and stringing my legs over the side of the sofa and just sighed.
“Rough day at work?” I just closed my eyes in response, he patted my forehead “I’m sorry, buddy, would you like to watch an action movie where people die firey deaths?” I nodded
“I would like that” So for a couple of hours, I watched action movies where people died firey deaths imagining each as one of my costumes while Erik read, how he could read over the noise I had no idea.
I was napping in my room when I heard a soft knock, I looked up Erik’s head was poked through the opening between the door and the wall, I made a noise of acknowledgment
“I was gonna make dinner want any” I was about to ask what but anything other than Raman sounded like dining at a 5-star so I nodded and he left. I’d been Erik’s roommate for a couple of years now, our apartment was decent 2 bedrooms, on bath, small living room, and kitchen. I was still in college while Erik tried to make it up his companies ladder, what that company is; no idea. Erik was a good friend at this point, we both had partners that came and left but we always kind of had each other which was nice. At this point, I’d met Erik’s family but he had never met mine, I don’t go home the holidays, I’m not welcome, so his family always invited me to stay. It was pretty amazing he had an amazing family; siblings, aunts, cousins they all got along as well as the average family. Erik never asked about my family even though I knew he was curious, I appreciated him respecting my boundaries.
Monday-Thursday
School, work, home, Erik, school, home, work, work, home.
Friday
Friday our friends were over for movie night, we decided on pride and prejudice because last Friday my dear friend Abigail insisted that it was miraculous we hadn’t watched it and that we had to for the ‘sake of all things holy’, we didn’t offer up any better options so pride and prejudice. Tyler sat in the chair next to us, me and Erik lounged on the sofa with my head in his lap, and Abigail sat on the floor even there was another chair. We were all at different levels or crying or yelling throughout the movie. When it was over we all just kinda sat it silence thinking about it. Until Erik said ‘ya that was good’ and we all made different comments of agreement. Then we just sat around and talked.
To be continued…
Note: I write a lot of stories but I don’t always finish them. If I have any “to be continued stories up, that you’re on the edge of your seat for, please drop a comment.
