You know when your drowning

You don’t take in water until the last breath

In a desperate attempt to hope that

The water turns to air

And it’ll be all okay

And in some ways

That’s how I was with you

A desperate hope

That maybe

Somehow

Water would turn to air

And it would all be fine

But instead, my lungs burned

And my throat itched

As I tried to breathe in

And my lungs filled with water

Panic filled within me

And we made eye contact

And all I saw was cruelty

And it was to late

And I scratched

And squirmed

And I yelled

creating little bubbles in the water

While you held my head under
