There are two husbands and two wives.

husband one  picks up flowers for his wife

the other’s buried in strife

One husband tries to see his spouse

while the other is out of the house

husband one cooks a meal

and the other goes on a reel

Of all he’s done today

He just wants to watch the game

One husband makes room at the table

While  the other watches cable

One husband says thank you

the other downs the burning brew

One husband kisses his kids to sleep.

While the other doesn’t even sweep

One husband goes to sleep in his bed

The other a recliner is the place to lay their head

Both husbands once abused their mate

Is a spout of rage

Over something trivial

But after the burial

These husbands are the same

After and before shame

Because grief is more powerful than gratitude

“Dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude.”
